Petra Johana Poncarová studied Anglophone Literatures and Cultures and Danish Studies at Charles University, Prague, and Scottish Gaelic at the University of Highlands and Islands. Her research focuses on Scottish literature and culture, especially on writing in Scottish Gaelic (Derick Thomson, Tormod Caimbeul, Ruaraidh Erskine of Mar, the Ossian controversy), and on British literature of the 20th and 21st century. Her publications include the Scotnote Study Guide The Gaelic Poetry of Derick Thomson (2020) and the forthcoming monograph Derick Thomson and the Gaelic Revival (Edinburgh University Press, 2023). She is the secretary of the International Association for the Study of Scottish Literatures and executive editor of the journal Litteraria Pragensia.
